Inspiration Station

Happy November!!! I can't believe this year is almost over! It seems like the older I get the faster life happens!

Last night a friend of mine posted a video on Facebook of Oprah interviewing Jim Carrey from 1997 (see video below). I remember hearing the story shared in the video as a child and I kid you not, it's one of those inspirational stories that made such an impact on my life, it's resonated in my spirit literally since I was 9 years old.

In the interview, Jim Carrey explains how he was dirt poor and wrote himself a check for $10million for "acting services rendered". He dated the check for Thanksgiving 1995 and kept it in his wallet. (After four years with the check in his pocket, Jim’s dad passed away in 1994. Jim slipped the check in his wallet into his dad’s casket at the funeral, to thank him for believing in his dream.) It was just a year after that, in 1995, just before Thanksgiving that Jim received a check for $10 million for acting services rendered in the film "Dumb and Dumber".

The power of vision.

Reality hit me hard this morning as I realized it was November 1st and I haven't progressed as much as I had anticipated at the top of the year. Of your New Years Resolutions and Goals for 2016, how many have you actually accomplished in the last 305 days? Perhaps you never set any and you've just been... Living. Here's a fun fact: you fail to accomplish 100% of the goals you never set.

But guess what?! It's not too late and there's still hope! Today I asked myself what do I want? And most importantly, what precautionary measures do I need to take to ensure that it happens?

For me, these last 60 days are all about discipline and being selfish with my time, and making a conscious effort to prepare for an opportunity that doesn't exist yet. For you it may be something different and that's okay! I'm not saying we have to all write checks to ourselves for $10 million, but I think we all should at some point take the time to visualize what we want.

I implore you this week to turn off your phone, pull out a journal and write down what you want to accomplish, what you want your life to look like, and what you want to take possession of. Be bold and even put a deadline if you want!

Perhaps before the week is up you see yourself sleeping peacefully in a clutter free room. Or by December 31st you see yourself obtaining a passport. No matter how big or small, just remember not to write a check that you can't cash. Meaning, Faith without works is dead so press to ensure that you're taking steps towards the goal and not just "eating a sandwich" as Jim Carrey puts it!

So with 60 days left Let's regroup, regain our focus, strategize and finish well!
