Flower Teachers

A while ago while talking to a friend, I decided that I want flowers every Tuesday.

Seemingly random, I actually had an old supervisor whose husband would bring her a gourmet cupcake and a bottle of water every Tuesday.

To this day I'm not 100% sure what was so significant about Tuesday's in particular, but I thought it was the sweetest gesture! Not just because, let's be real, who wouldn't want a gourmet cupcake, but it was his consistency!

Despite the weather, how he may have been feeling, what happened at work, and so forth, he came every Tuesday with a smile on his face, CRAVE cupcake in hand.

So that brings me to this morning.

The day was going ehh, okay, when I was approached with a financial dilemma that actually got me in my feelings. And one thing I've always said was that I never want to be stressed out by something as minuscule as money!

Nevertheless, things weren't adding up when I just decided to relieve myself of the stress and take a lunch break. I desperately needed to pray and get away to take my mind off of my frustrations. While driving, I ended up at a grocery store where I was overwhelmed at the sight of the floral arrangements upon the entrance!

So many bright and vivid colors. Flowers of many shapes and sizes! I was amazed!

So I introduced myself to the florist (Ms.Lois) and I told her about my new venture and how wanted to learn more about flowers.

She answered all of my questions about the care and keep of flowers, and she even told me that some weren't as tolerant of environmental assaults as others. Who knew flowers were so intriguing? After selecting my arrangement, I headed back to work and couldn't help but be reminded of Matthew 6: 27-34. As soon as I got to work, I pulled up the The MSG translation and here's what it said:

“Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.
If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”

Wheeeeww!! The Message Bible gets me ALL THE WAY together every time!!! But Wow! Isn't that encouraging?!

Just as my supervisor's husband was consistent and never missed a beat, our Heavenly Father is the same way!

And just as Ms. Lois informed me about how certain flowers have resilience, I realized that no matter what comes my way I should be the same! Being bold, vibrant and withstanding every "environmental assault".

So not only did I get the flowers that I wanted, God used them as a tool to remind me that He loves us in an incredible way! I don't have to worry about a thing because God hasn't forgotten me, He hears me, and is working on my behalf!

Stay encouraged beautiful flowers! His timing is PERFECT!!

Fabulously yours,
